POSITION PURPOSE

We are looking for an experienced and passionate leader that will contribute to the growth of Sustainalytics’ market positioning as a leading provider of second-party opinions for sustainable bond frameworks. Based out of Amsterdam, the candidate will oversee our second-party opinions team servicing our growing APAC client base. The role will entail a broad regional focus on the Asia-Pacific market, including but not limited to China, Japan, Singapore and Korea, collaborating with underwriters and issuer clients (namely, corporations, development banks, sovereigns and municipalities).

This position is part of our global SFS leadership team, reporting to the Executive Director, Sustainable Finance Solutions, located in Toronto, Canada. In an innovative and fast-growing market, we are seeking a seasoned professional who brings a wealth of organizational, leadership and sustainable finance expertise to the second-party opinions team. The ideal candidate should have a strong leadership profile, a commercial and client-centric approach, experience in APAC markets, and thrive in a dynamic work environment.

Key responsibilities include managing a team of project managers and associates that executes and delivers credible and timely second-party opinions in line with evolving market expectations, engaging with issuers and underwriters on an ongoing basis. The candidate will be responsible for the team’s delivery of high-quality and timely opinions to clients and will represent us in the market externally to expand our leadership profile. The ability to communicate clearly at all levels, form strong relationships with stakeholders and proactively identify and manage risks is also essential in this role.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Strategic leadership: lead a regional project team that can deliver upon its mandate in the organization and contribute to the strategic direction of this fast-growing business unit.
Coaching and mentoring: support managers in their efforts to build high performing and motivated sub-teams. Oversee capacity building initiatives.
Content Management: drive high quality research through ongoing training and development, internal reviews and sign-off. Develop expertise in Sustainalytics use of proceeds taxonomy.
Cross Regional Collaboration: Work collaboratively with the SFS team across our global offices, to help strengthen our offering and ensure opportunities are managed efficiently.
Client Support: Engage with issuers and underwriters as a valued source of insight on sustainable bonds
Expertise development: Continuously strengthen knowledge of sustainable debt financing and develop related expertise across the team.

QUALIFICATIONS:

At least 8-10+ years’ experience preferably in a research/consulting environment.
Experience in financial markets or corporate consulting considered an asset.
Master’s degree in related discipline (business, finance, sustainability, engineering).
Fluency in English with strong oral and written communication skills.
Fluency in additional languages considered an asset (eg. Mandarin, Japanese, Korean).
Demonstrable understanding and experience in financial services and sustainable debt finance.
Passion for sustainability and alignment with Sustainalytics’ mission, vision and values
5+ years’ experience with operational and people management.
Client-centric and commercial approach.
Strong project management and execution skills.
Ability to work cross-functionally with ease and manage competing interests.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
Strong analytical skills, innovative, entrepreneurial and problem-solving attitude.
Candidate is used to working in a dynamic, international environment.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Power BI, and PowerPoint
