The Director of Manufacturing will be in charge of industrialization and manufacturing our lithium-ion battery systems, material management, inventory, assembly, shipping and quality of the processes and products to meet the requirements of the production schedule and the customer’s delivery expectations.

You will be responsible for the development, implementation of controls and procedures for the achievement of high quality and efficient production flow through operations, both for our low-volume and planned greenfield high-volume facilities. You have experience of working with stakeholders, select, justify, acquire, install and qualify new production equipment and processes. We believe that you have a background in building and launching new production lines, and if you have done so for electronics manufacturing or battery manufacturing this will be considered a plus. You will likely know the vendors of machinery, factory equipment and automation systems from previous engagements.

You will be part of building a dependable team from scratch, capable of scaling Northvolt’s batteries operations in Sweden and beyond. As a Director in the Northvolt organization, you will be part of the business area leadership team and report to the President for Battery Systems.

Key responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, direct and conduct industrialization related activities
  • Work with the product design team to optimize products for effective manufacturing (DFM)
  • Oversee the building of a large-scale battery factory
  • Develop, manage, audit, improve and correct supplier planning
  • Suggest and lead supplier improvements in scalability, cost, and quality
  • Facilitate communication and clarification of technical requirements between suppliers and Northvolt´s internal stakeholders
  • Responsible for supplier audits to ensure the ability to meet expectations

Skills & Requirements:

  • Master degree or equivalent experience in Electrical/Mechanical/Industrial/Manufacturing Engineering
  • 5 years of manufacturing experience in a high volume, highly automated advanced manufacturing facility
  • Documented experience from taking a large scale factory from planning to production
  • Demonstrated knowledge of operational excellence and continuous improvement practices and a working knowledge of the application of information technology to support process development
  • Understand the cost of ownership for various lithium-ion systems processes/materials with a proven record of effective cost reduction.
  • Successful track record of scaling industrialization in a fast-growing environment
  • Strong technical writing ability and aptitude for explaining complex issues in a concise and plain manner
  • Must have worked in a multi-cultural environment
  • A plus if you have experience in lithium-ion battery technology
