Plant Process Engineer

Air Products

Strasbourg or Rotterdam

What you’ll be doing

Plant Process Engineers provide primary process and operational support to our Air Products operating facilities. They are responsible for process input to related Safety, Reliability, Productivity and Asset-management projects. This involves close co-operation with line and business management, plant staff, and other technical discipline engineers both locally, at a European, and sometimes global level. This can include contributing to development of new process operating strategies, determination of costs and benefits, design of new equipment, and participation in commissioning and performance testing of the plants.

Specifically, the successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Evaluate plant productivity improvements, either theoretically or through plant testing and development/implement the solution to realise those benefits.
  • Provide technical operations input to business development, supporting initiatives including contract rolls, new plants and plant relocations.
  • Produce P&ID change notes, process designs, equipment specifications, and control strategies.
  • Support Plant HAZOPs, resulting close out actions and safety retrofit projects.
  • Support specialist onsite process and non-standard activities including defrosts, cooldowns, Operational Readiness Inspections and commissioning.
  • Provide process support to maintenance activities and plant shutdowns.

Though the role will be primarily focused on execution of plant modifications the plant process engineer will also at times be expected to:

  • Work with the various operating teams and engineering disciplines to troubleshoot and resolve critical plant issues.
  • Support identification of plant underperformance and drive resolution to ensure on target operation.

A high standard of engineering practice, technical governance and operational discipline must be upheld throughout all these activities.

What we’ll be looking for

  • A high level of technical expertise ideally suited to someone with a Chemical Engineering or related degree with 5+ years relevant experience.
  • Practical, onsite plant experience with a ‘hands-on’ approach.
  • Discipline to work to a schedule and manage competing priorities.
  • Self-motivation with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to work productively, both unsupervised and as part of multi-discipline technical teams.
  • Flexibility to travel anywhere within the Northern Continent region to support projects for short durations, and to occasionally respond to plant problems outside working hours with a willingness to travel at short notice.
  • Local language capability (Dutch if Rotterdam, French if Strasbourg), and English is required at minimum. You can expect to work at times as part of international teams as well as at local level.
