Scope of work

The competence centre « Safety Rules & Implementation » offers its expertise in licensing, regulatory compliance support and safety assessment.

As owner of the Nuclear Safety Process the competence centre is responsible for:

  • Safety Culture: contribute to the understanding and implementation inside TE of nuclear safety principles;
  • Rules & Regulations: analyse the evolution of Safety & Licensing rules and regulations and validate those to be applied to each project;
  • Safety Implementation: check the correct application of the Rules and Regulations within the projects (through guidance review and audits)
  • Safety Cases: analyse safety issues and propose interpretation or positions;
  • Coordination of the Modification Group: Independent verification that the plant modifications to the Belgian units comply with the design bases.

YOUR MISSION

  • Technical Coordinator of safety processes: manage the information transfer; organise and coordinate meetings with several experts from other technical disciplines; draft and consolidate common positions; assure the application of the process;
  • Safety Officer function within projects: assure the proper consideration of nuclear licensing and safety aspects in studies/projects; establish safety requirements, analyse and ensure compliance with safety requirements, organise safety reviews, contacts with Safety Authorities;
  • Assistance to the client’s nuclear licensing process, including the establishment of associated documents such as PSAR and FSAR (preliminary and final safety assessment report);
  • Safety analysis and assessment, e.g.: classification & qualification requirements with respect to safety functions and items important to safety, radiological consequences studies, internal and external hazards studies including definition of the load case, determination of PIE’s (postulated initiating events) and DBA’s (design basis accidents), statistical setpoint studies.

Qualifications/Background

  • With a master degree in Engineering. A degree in Nuclear Science constitutes a further asset;
  • “Generalist”, having knowledge of all technical disciplines enabling you to discuss on safety aspects related to these disciplines;
  • Experience in nuclear, general nuclear safety approach, general nuclear licensing knowledge or one of the above mentioned domains constitute further assets (but the position is also open for junior profiles with less experience);
  • With good knowledge of Dutch, French and/or English;
  • With critical and inquiring mind, dynamic, rigorous and pragmatic;
  • Able to write position papers and synthesis reports, able to write clear safety positions and argumentation;
  • Good listener and communicator, capacity to develop personal contacts; good facilitating skills, diplomatic;
  • Team player;
  • With the capacity to assume responsibilities and to take initiatives;
  • Able to work autonomously.
